The conference takes place every two years exploring poultry science, health and production.
Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) worked with both the World Veterinary Poultry Association (WVPA) and the Australasian Veterinary Poultry Association (AVPA) to bring the conference to Melbourne.
The bid also had the support of the Victorian Government and Australia’s national business events subvention fund, the Business Events Bid Fund Program, which is administered by Tourism Australia.
Victoria is Australia’s second largest agricultural producer and as recent egg shortages driven by bird flu have shown, the health of Australia’s poultry has a significant impact on the everyday lives of Australians.
“The Australian Veterinary Poultry Association is excited to host the 25th World Veterinary Poultry Congress in Melbourne in 2029,” said the president of the Australasian Veterinary Poultry Association, Dr Angela Scott.
“We are excited to showcase the health, science and technology of the Australian poultry industry to poultry veterinarians globally and to bring global expertise and knowledge to advance our profession further.”
MCB’s chief executive, Julia Swanson, called the congress win “a testament to Melbourne’s global reputation as a premier destination for scientific and industry collaboration”.
“We look forward to welcoming international delegates and showcasing the innovation and expertise that define our city,” said Swanson.
