Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) secured 230 business events for the city during the 2024-2025 financial year.

Collectively the events will make an estimated $270 million contribution to Victoria, attracting some 57,000 delegates and generating 113,000 room nights.

The largest win of the year for the bureau was Women Deliver 2026, a conference which is anticipated to draw 6,000 delegates and have an economic impact of $32 million.

The next most financially valuable win is the 30th Asia Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology Congress, set for Melbourne in 2028, with 2,000 delegates and a $16 million economic contribution expected.

Meanwhile the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power and Energy Society (PES) Generation Transmission and Distribution Conference & Exposition Asia 2027 is expected to have 3,000 delegates and drive a $15 million economic contribution.

“Our strategic and proactive approach to securing events has delivered strong results in providing future business for Melbourne,” said MCB CEO Julia Swanson.

“Our success is testament to the power of our collaborative Team Melbourne approach, which brings together the Victorian Government, Visit Victoria, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, City of Melbourne and our event supplier partners to deliver exceptional business events.”

The city also had a significant year in terms of events held, with the city anchoring the largest inbound incentive Australia has ever seen in April, in Amway China’s 30th Anniversary Leadership Summit. The incentive event had 16,000 delegates and an estimated economic impact of $100 million.

And the MCB-owned Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) in February was estimated to play a role in $400 million worth of deals in the business events industry.

Altogether, 243 events were held over the financial year that MCB played a role in securing for the city.
