Australia’s island state has 12 business events scheduled for May, with 3,379 delegates expected, alongside an estimated economic injection of $12 million.
Hotel room nights are also up 55 per cent.
Conferences being held in Tasmania this month include the Australian Hydrographers Association Conference 2025 in Launceston in mid-May for around 250 delegates while the College of Intensive Care Medicine Annual Scientific Meeting 2025 will have around 380 delegates when it takes place in Hobart next week.
“These events not only drive economic benefit for local hotels, restaurants and tourism operators, but also strengthen Tasmania’s identity as a destination known for innovation, excellence and industry expertise,” said Tasmania’s Premier Jeremy Rockliff.
“Launceston’s prominent role this month also reflects the increasing interest in regional Tasmania as a business destination, offering unique venues, world-class infrastructure and authentic local experiences.”
Feasibility work has been done recently to understand what’s required to elevate Launceston as a business events destination, including assessing the benefit of Launceston having a dedicated convention venue.
“As part of our government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we are investing an additional $1.2 million in Business Events Tasmania to boost this industry across the state,” said Rockliff.
“We are now seeing the results from this strategic investment, which is helping to grow our economy, back in this industry and support Tasmanian jobs.”
