At the opening were Accor Pacific’s chief operating officer, Adrian Williams, the hotel’s general manager, Justin Phillips and Melbourne Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece. To ensure the property’s prosperity, a traditional lion dance was performed in honour of developers, Spacious Group, who were represented by their MD Angela Liang.
Accor’s newest property is a $90 million, 18-storey, 195-room hotel near Flagstaff Gardens and within walking distance of Marvel Stadium.
“We’re in a unique pocket of the city and are fortunate to have great separation between ourselves and other tall buildings on all sides,” said Phillips.
“So no matter where you stay in the hotel, you’ve got great views, whether it’s towards Docklands, back towards Flagstaff Gardens or views of the CBD and out towards North Melbourne.”
Mercure La Trobe St has a boardroom for 10, a level six function space that can cater for up to 200 and an outdoor terrace for events of 60 attendees. It is a 20-minute stroll along nearby Spencer Street to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre – or a tram ride.
The site, 492 La Trobe St, was once home to a tinsmith and the contemporary hotel design gives a tip-of-the-hat to its former industry.
