The state government has published a discussion paper outlining “driving forces” – ecotourism and the legacy from Brisbane’s Olympic Games in 2032 – and the various areas of focus for the visitor economy strategy – investment attraction, tourism experience development, events delivery and access and connectivity – with questions for industry attached to each section.
Visitor economy stakeholders are invited to provide feedback on a future tourism strategy either via an online survey or by providing an email submission by this Friday.
There are also two in-person workshops this week for industry to provide feedback – one in Toowoomba on Thursday and another on the Gold Coast on Friday.
“With many events set to bring visitors to our great state, including the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we must be ready to offer them an unparallelled tourism experience,” said Queensland’s tourism and environment minister, Andrew Powell, who has been attending consultation events around the state.
“We want visitors to come for these events but stay for all that we have to offer, from ecotourism adventures to accessible attractions.
“Tourism is the backbone of the Queensland economy, responsible for one in 12 jobs, which is why it is so critically important to fortify the industry for the future.
“As the public consultation period comes to a close, I encourage all Queenslanders to have their say – as tourism impacts us all.”
