International aquaculture nutrition meeting set for Darwin
The Top End will host the International Symposium on Fish Nutrition and Feeding in May 2026.

Hosted by Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, the conference will be held at Darwin Convention Centre from May 18 to 21.

The successful bid was backed by both the convention centre and Northern Territory Business Events.

“CSIRO looks forward to welcoming delegates from around the world to share the latest research and innovations in aquatic animal nutrition and feeding,” said CSIRO research scientist, Dr Cedric Simon, who helmed the winning bid for Australia.

“Choosing Darwin as the host city gives us an opportunity to highlight Australia’s tropical aquaculture industry, which includes iconic barramundi and prawn species and newer candidates like tropical oysters, groupers and black jewfish.”

The meeting will put a global spotlight on Australia’s $2 billion aquaculture industry.

Since the last time Australia hosted the biennial meeting, in Cairns in 2014, the value of the local aquaculture industry has doubled.

Around 400 delegates are expected to attend the Darwin conference, with the meeting being managed by Darwin-based PCO Agentur.

As an international conference host Darwin has a geographical advantage, being less than five hours’ flight from Singapore – nearly the same travel time as delegates flying from Sydney.
