The 150-room InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa will feature “extensive” event space, in addition to a 130-seat signature restaurant, a lounge bar, a garden terrace, a day spa and a gym.
The property is a result of a partnership between IHG and development consortium Strategic Alliance.
“We are exceptionally excited to bring our iconic InterContinental brand to the Barossa, and would like to thank the Strategic Alliance team for partnering with us to invest in the future of South Australian tourism,” said IHG Hotels & Resorts managing director for Australasia and the Pacific, Matt Tripolone.
“For the first time, the Barossa will boast a globally branded luxury hotel that will serve as an indelible beacon for guests seeking an unparalleled level of luxury and sophistication.
“Underpinned by stunning architecture and complemented by one of the world’s most recognised brands, InterContinental Barossa Resort & Spa will be the perfect destination for wine lovers, gastronomes and luxury escapists.”
While there are a variety of accommodation options already in the Barossa, including super boutique premium and luxury offerings like Kingsford The Barossa and The Louise, this will be the first large-scale, five-star internationally branded property for the Barossa Valley.
The scheduled 2028 opening date is subject to planning approvals.
South Australia’s tourism minister, Zoe Bettison, called the proposed development “exciting”.
“The Barossa is a key drawcard for South Australia, with over 768,000 visitor nights in the last year – with 35 per cent of those coming from interstate and 10 per cent coming from overseas,” she said.
“What is clear is that the Barossa needs more luxury accommodation to attract interstate and overseas guests who are seeking high-end, authentic Barossa experiences.”
