Crown Melbourne gets new CEO
Blackstone, the private equity firm which owns Crown Resorts, has announced Ed Domingo will take over the helm at Crown Melbourne from Mike Volkert.
According to Crown Resorts, Volkert is “stepping down…to pursue an opportunity outside of Crown”.
Domingo will start as Crown Melbourne’s CEO in late April, bringing with him more than two decades of experience in hospitality and the casino sector.
He will move to Crown from Empire City Casino in New York, owned by MGM Resorts International, where he has been president and chief operating officer since 2019.
Domingo has also worked for Bellagio and Caesars Entertainment across the US.
“Ed has a proven track record in leading integrated resorts, and we are thrilled to welcome him to Crown Melbourne,” said Crown Resorts CEO, David Tsai.
“With his extensive industry experience across various gaming jurisdictions, Ed is well-positioned to lead Crown Melbourne’s next phase of growth and success.
“I would also like to extend my gratitude to Mike for his invaluable contribution over the past two and a half years, including his leadership in our transformation journey.”
Alongside its gaming floors, Crown Melbourne operates considerable event space and premium hotel rooms on the edge of Melbourne’s city centre.
New tourism ministers in WA and NSW
Although the Labor party won another term in Western Australia’s state election this month, there has been a shuffle of ministerial positions as the government resumes business as usual.
Reece Whitby is Western Australia’s new tourism minister, taking over from deputy premier Rita Saffioti. Whitby is also the minister for police, road safety and Great Southern.
Before entering state politics, Whitby was a journalist, working at Seven News for 20 years, in addition to other roles with the ABC and Channel 9.
Meanwhile, in New South Wales, Premier Chris Minns has shuffled his ministers, with John Graham no longer the tourism minister, although he remains minister of the arts, music and the night-time economy, amongst other portfolios.
The NSW tourism minister is now Steve Kamper, who takes on the combined jobs and tourism ministry, in addition to being the lands and property, multiculturalism and sport minister. Kamper is a former accountant.
