IHG’s Bourke Street Mall hotels to open in time for AFL Grand Final
IHG has brought forward the opening of their two new properties in Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall precinct.

Both hotels are now accepting bookings from September 15, with rooms and event spaces expected to be open for guests.

micenet understands the operators of Hotel Indigo Melbourne Little Collins and Holiday Inn Melbourne Bourke Street Mall are hoping the properties will be busy for Melbourne’s AFL Grand Final, which takes place on September 27, with the match venue, the MCG, having a seating capacity of roughly 100,000 spectators.

Both hotels use Little Collins Street addresses but are part of the multi-million dollar Melbourne Walk development that flows through to Bourke Street Mall. The two properties top out at 10 storeys above the shopping street, behind historic Art Deco facades of mall-facing buildings including Diamond House, Public Benefit Bootery, Allan’s and York Building.

Hotel Indigo at 288 Little Collins Street has 179 rooms and is described by IHG as part of “a global collection of neighbourhood-inspired boutique hotels, each shaped by the culture, character and people of its local surroundings”. It features a soaring atrium and a spiral staircase which connects levels two to five.

Holiday Inn at 296 Little Collins Street is the larger of the two hotels, with 272 rooms, and offers a Scandinavian feel.

Both properties have small meeting spaces – the Indigo has a boardroom for 14 while the Holiday Inn’s event space on level two can be divided in three for small groups or be used as a single space with a maximum capacity of 70.

Both properties will be run under one general manager, Scott Hamilton.

“This project has been an opportunity to reimagine the way hotels activate the city,” said Hamilton.

“By building upon heritage and layering in art, laneway references and design – the result is something that feels authentically Melbourne.

“This is more than just two hotels, it is a new chapter for Melbourne’s city centre – one that reflects where the city is heading and celebrates where it’s come from.”

The hotels are a single tram ride from Melbourne’s convention centre or a 22-minute walk.
