Three quick hits of hotel news from across Australia and New Zealand.

25hours brand sets date for Australian debut

25hours Hotel The Olympia in Sydney’s Paddington has set an opening date of September 25.

Works began for the 109-room lifestyle hotel from Ennismore in the first half of 2022, with the property originally expected to open in 2023.

The hotel revives a historic site in Sydney, which was formerly the home of the West Olympia Theatre and the Grand Pacific Blue Room.

Located on Oxford St, the hotel features a restaurant, a rooftop bar, a café and a wine and cocktail bar.

Ennismore is a joint venture with Accor.

Mercure Clear Mountain Lodge will become a Peppers retreat

Peppers set for Moreton Bay region

Following the recent acquisition of the property, Mandala Hotels & Resorts will spend $4 million to upgrade Mercure Clear Mountain Lodge just outside Brisbane into a five-star retreat under Accor’s Peppers brand.

The transformation will yield the first five-star accommodation offering for Moreton Bay.

The refurbishment will touch the 51 guest rooms, event spaces, the restaurant and private dining spaces, as well as the property’s pool, gym and spa.

“This is more than a refurbishment, it’s a complete repositioning of the guest experience,” said Charlie Pridham, head of client relations at Dezign, the firm leading an integrated design and construction process for the reinvention of the 20-hertare property.

Minor Hotels expands Auckland presence

The hotel group has brought the Oaks name to Auckland, after making a deal which sees the Nesuto Stadium Hotel and Apartments offering rebranded to Oaks Auckland Hotel.

The 244-key hotel, owned by Mulpha International, is located next to Auckland’s Spark Arena and is 20 minutes’ walk from the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC) which is due to open next February.

Under the Oaks brand, the F&B offering at the hotel has been renewed and the hotel’s lobby will become a co-working space. A new fitness centre is also in the works. Following the announcement of the repositioning of the Oaks brand into a full service hotel, Oaks Auckland will feature a signature Oaks lamington and a run club.

“Oaks Auckland Hotel marks an exciting milestone for our brand and reinforces Minor Hotels’ ongoing commitment to strategic growth in Australasia,” said Minor Hotels Australasia’s COO, Craig Hooley.

“As Oaks continues its evolution to a lifestyle-focused offering, we’re proud to introduce a property that will deliver an exceptional guest experience that reflects this and the unique spirit of Auckland.

“Through our connections with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and the wider local community, we aim to create guest experiences that honour the cultural significance of Te Tōangaroa and this special place.”
