New Mercure to open in Melbourne
A new-build 195-room hotel from Accor’s Mercure brand is set to open in Melbourne next month.
Mercure Melbourne La Trobe Street sits at the Spencer Street end of La Trobe Street, offering quick access to Marvel Stadium and its business events spaces, as well as being a tram ride from Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“This is an important milestone for the business as our first hotel development,” said Angela Liang, managing director of Spacious Group, the hotel’s owner.
“We prioritised getting it right over moving quickly, with quality informing every decision in the design.
“Ensuring the outcome felt considered was critical, and we’re excited to share the completed project in the weeks ahead.”
The hotel is expected to open in March.

New glamping experience in regional South Australia
Twenty glamping tents will open in April as part of Monarto Safari Resort’s Safari Lodge in Monarto, an hour’s drive from Adelaide.
Managed by Journey Beyond, both the resort and the lodge have been built within Monarto Safari Park, the largest open-range safari park outside Africa.
“The opening of ‘Safari Lodge’ signals the new level of luxury at Monarto Safari Resort,” said the property’s owner, Gerry Ryan OAM.
“It’s an opportunity to delve into an African wildlife experience, witness the beauty of diverse species, and indulge in the serenity of your surroundings. Guests will be able to view zebra, giraffe, barbary sheep, nyala, ostrich, eland and oryx as they gather around the waterhole and roam the grassland plains surrounding the lodge.”
The lodge is adjacent to the resort, which opened last May offering 78 rooms and event space that can host up to 150 in theatre or 120 for banquets.
The new safari lodge also has its own restaurant catering exclusively to glamping guests.
The Safari Lodge will open on April 2.
