Hilton has been declared the best large workplace in Australia by the Great Place to Work consultancy, while Marriott International and Be Challenged also made the cut.

Hilton has improved its ranking by one spot on last year, when it placed second, while Marriott has fallen a few spots, but still ranks an impressive ninth in the country for the best companies to work for that have 1,000 or more staff.

“This recognition is a celebration of our people, and the careers they’re building here,” said Hilton’s senior director of human resources for Australasia, Mary Hogg.

“Hospitality is a dynamic and rewarding industry with endless opportunities.

“At Hilton, whether you start at the front desk, in housekeeping or in a specialist function, we support your journey every step of the way.”

Hilton has now been locally certified by Great Place to Work in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

“These achievements reflect the deep trust our team members place in Hilton, and the culture we’ve built together,” said Hilton’s area vice president and head of Australasia, Paul Hutton.

“We’re incredibly proud to once again be recognised as a Great Place to Work.

“This is a testament to our commitment to listening, growing together and creating a workplace where every team member feels supported, valued and inspired.

“We know that building a great place to work takes more than policy – it takes people. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together, and we’re just getting started.”

The best place to work rankings from Great Place to Work are determined by staff surveys of companies already certified by the consultancy. The survey, developed by Great Place to Work, includes 60 statements which staff rate on a one to five scale, as well as two written response questions.

On the list of best small companies – those with 30 to 99 employees – team building business Be Challenged has made the top 10 again, coming in at number 10 – also a slight drop from last year, when it ranked sixth.

“Being named by Great Place To Work as one of the best places to work in Australia is a huge honour for us, but it’s a really fantastic reflection of the emphasis that we have always placed on the culture of our business,” said Be Challenged CEO Lisa Kelliher.

“We’ve known from the outset that when your team members are happy and when you prioritise culture that is when you are productive as a team and when your clients and people you work with can feel that and can feel your values in action.”

The strategic director for Be Challenged, Oliver Sheer, adds: “We believe our methodology of being strategic and specific with the development of our culture and not trying to create a culture for everyone has allowed Be Challenged to maintain our Great Place To Work recognition.”
