Flight Centre’s event agency, FCM Meetings & Events (FCM M&E), has reinforced its partnership with the food rescue charity FareShare.

“We see the volume of food produced and discarded at events every day, and we know we all have the potential to do better,” said FCM M&E’s general manager of customer and operations, Katie Fraser.

One piece of research found between 15 and 20 per cent of food served at events goes to waste.

“Our colleagues across FCTG [Flight Centre Travel Group] have proudly rallied behind FareShare through the Flight Centre Foundation,” said Fraser.

“As an events business, we can take this further by addressing food waste directly in our operations.

“FareShare has the expertise and infrastructure to turn this industry challenge into community impact.

“Through our venue partnerships and supply chain, we can help reduce food waste by supporting the invaluable work happening through the Flight Centre Foundation.”

The FCM M&E team is working to reduce food waste from events further by incorporating strategies to reduce food waste into event planning and delivery, as well as collaborating with venues, caterers and other suppliers to both reduce food waste and find donation opportunities.

The event agency is also encouraging its staff to volunteer in FareShare’s kitchens, which use rescued and donated food to cook meals for those in need.

Staff from across Flight Centre Travel Group recently collectively donated $65,000 to FareShare through the Flight Centre Foundation.
