Up from the current 10 flights a week, the double daily services will begin on December 15, increasing the available seats on the route to more than 5,000 seats a week.
With Abu Dhabi being a major hub between Australia and Europe, the higher number of flights provides a boost to connectivity between Sydney and a range of destinations across the UK and continental Europe.
“Double daily flights give our guests even greater flexibility when travelling between Australia and Etihad’s growing global network,” said Etihad’s chief revenue and commercial officer, Arik De.
“The additional service strengthens connectivity through Abu Dhabi, creating more seamless access to destinations across the Middle East and Europe, while making it easier for travellers to experience Abu Dhabi and discover everything the emirate has to offer as part of their journey.
“More flights mean more opportunities to explore new destinations, reconnect with family and friends, do business across continents or break up the journey with a memorable stopover in one of the world’s most dynamic and fast-growing cities.”
Etihad also operates daily services between Melbourne and Abu Dhabi but has not resumed services to Brisbane since the pandemic.
With the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Australian Government is advising travellers to reconsider the need to travel or transit through the region at the moment, via the Smart Traveller website, an improvement on the “Do not travel” warning issued at the start of the conflict.
