Crystalbrook Collection reveals name and sneak peek of future Canberra hotel

As construction really gets going, the Crystalbrook Collection has announced the name of its Canberra property, expected to open early 2027.

To be called Crystalbrook Aurora, the name takes inspiration from both the idea of a new era – or a new dawn – for Canberra as it looks ahead, and from the pile of potential names Australia’s national capital wasn’t called – Aurora was one of them.

“Crystalbrook Aurora’s identity reveal and development progress marks an exciting next chapter in our Canberra journey,” said Crystalbrook founder, Ghassan Aboud.

“This project reflects our commitment to investing in high-growth, culturally significant locations and delivering properties that reflect the future of responsible luxury.”

Groundwork is now underway for the new-build 225-room, 10-storey hotel on Bunda St between Bunda St and Garema Place, and hording around the site is up.

Reflecting nearby parliamentary buildings, Crystalbrook Aurora will have a curved façade, a central skylight atrium and plenty of greenery.

Alongside event space, the hotel will have a rooftop European restaurant, ground floor dining, a spa, sauna, pool and gym and luxury retail space.

“As we continue to expand Crystalbrook Collection’s national footprint, Canberra represents both a strategic investment and an opportunity to help shape the next era of Australian hospitality,” said Crystalbrook Collection CEO, Geoff York.

“With visitor expenditure in the ACT reaching $3.6 billion in the year to December 2024, and projected to reach $5 billion by 2030, Canberra remains a significant tourism market.

“Alongside our local partners, TP Dynamics, led by Tony Pan, we’re proud to be delivering a hospitality offering that supports the city’s long-term growth, providing new world-class dining, meeting and event spaces for both visitors and the local community.”

Crystalbrook Aurora will be located close to the National Convention Centre Canberra and the proposed site for a new convention centre for the city. Both sites are less than 15 minutes’ walk from the hotel.
