Crowne Plaza headed for Parramatta

With Western Sydney in focus ahead of the debut of its new airport in 2026, Sydney’s second CBD is getting another new hotel under the Crowne Plaza brand.

The 217-room Crowne Plaza Parramatta is slated for a new mixed-use development opposite Parramatta’s train station. The hotel is expected to open in 2029.

The hotel project is the result of a collaboration between IHG Hotels & Resorts and developer Urban Property Group.

“This marks our first-ever hotel collaboration and will become a striking, defining feature within our mixed-use development when it opens in 2029,” said Urban’s co-CEO, Patrick Elias.

“Parramatta is set to play a key role in Sydney’s future as a major city centre, and we are proud to be creating a must-visit destination that combines quality hospitality and unrivalled connectivity for those who work here or visit from home or abroad.”

Alongside its room inventory, Crowne Plaza Parramatta will offer event space, a rooftop infinity pool and outdoor terrace, an all-day restaurant and a lobby bar.

“We’re delighted to partner with Urban and maximise this exceptional opportunity to bring our world-famous Crowne Plaza brand to Parramatta at a pivotal time in the city’s transformation,” said IHG’s managing director for Australasia and the Pacific, Matt Tripolone.

“Western Sydney is one of Australia’s most dynamic growth corridors, underpinned by record levels of infrastructure investment, a flourishing business and government sector, and the arrival of Western Sydney International airport in 2026.

“Crowne Plaza Parramatta will be a flagship destination for both domestic and international travellers and an important and attractive addition to the city’s evolving skyline.”

IHG also has an InterContinental hotel in the works in Parramatta, although it’s unclear at this stage what the timeline on that project is.

The Western Sydney CBD is in the throes of a hotel boom, with a QT expected to open next year and a Marriott hotel planned to debut in mid-2027.

The new Western Sydney International airport is on track to open in the second half of 2026, at Badgerys Creek, about 34km from Parramatta.
