A $200 million renovation of the Crown Melbourne precinct on Southbank is underway.

The renovation will deliver 15 new restaurants, food outlets and bars, new ‘sky-high’ event space and a significant revamp of Crown’s Riverwalk that runs along the Yarra River.

An integrated casino, events, entertainment and accommodation complex, Crown Melbourne already offers significant event space and a sizeable accommodation inventory across three hotels, right beside Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The renovations will include a transformation of the lobby bar at the Crown Towers hotel and a new event space on the 28th floor of Crown Metropol, which will offer floor-to-ceiling views of the city.

The results of the announced works will also make a big dent in Crown’s carbon footprint in Melbourne.

The addition of rooftop solar, energy-saving technology and batteries are expected to reduce carbon emissions across Crown’s 500,000m2 footprint by 23 per cent by next year.

On the food and beverage front, one of the new restaurants has already been announced, a steak restaurant from Australian butcher Victor Churchill that its CEO, Anthony Puharich, promises will create “a bold and dramatic” space “as much about theatre, experience and design as it is about exceptional produce”.

Crown Melbourne has also begun a renovation of The Palms, an entertainment space, expanding it to become the 1,250-seat Crown Live Theatre.

“This significant investment in new dining, entertainment and the iconic Riverwalk will cement Crown’s place as the ultimate destination for food, fun, entertainment and late-night energy,” said Crown Melbourne CEO Ed Domingo.

“Melburnians and our visitors have changed over the past 30 years – and this reimagining of our precinct ensures we continue to elevate our offering and deliver experiences fit for the next generation.”
