Convention space redevelopment to proceed in Albury

Albury City Council has confirmed the company who will undertake a $33 million redevelopment of the convention wing at the Albury Entertainment Centre.

The local Zauner Construction has won the contract to complete the project via a public tender process. The company is headquartered in Albury.

“Council has resolved to accept the tender so the project can move to the construction phase within the approved budget,” said Albury Mayor Kevin Mack.

“The decision recognises the external funding secured for the redevelopment. It is important that we now manage delivery carefully and maintain strong oversight of costs.”

The project has received $10 million in federal government funding and $15 million from the NSW Government.

The convention wing of the entertainment centre was built in 1972 and hasn’t been upgraded since 1993.

The redevelopment will nearly double the capacity for conferences to 2,000 pax and deliver improvements to the exhibition space.

Once complete, it is expected to generate $22.5 million each year in economic benefit for Albury and deliver a huge increase in revenue for the council – nearly four-fold – by the 2028-2029 financial year.

The redevelopment also aims to position the regional town on the Victorian-New South Wales border as a leading regional conference destination.

“Council’s role now is to ensure the project is delivered responsibly and in a way that strengthens the broader cultural precinct,” said Mack.

Work on the redevelopment will start in April, with the current timeline anticipating completion next year.
