Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, the Central Group and the Ministry of Interior signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last week to bring the “Carbon Neutrality 4 All” platform to business events stakeholders.
Already trialled with leisure travellers, business events organisers will be able to purchase carbon credits to offset their event emissions on the platform by the end of the year.
The platform includes the CERO application developed by a Thailand sustainable tech business, to help calculate the carbon footprint of an event, including by connecting to a venue’s energy control system.
Delegates can also use CERO to understand the carbon footprint of their event attendance.
The Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade Thailand own the platform, while the Ministry of the Interior will provide the carbon credits which come from household waste management systems in local communities.
The credits have been certified by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organisation which operates autonomously under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
With the credits coming from household waste management, purchase of carbon credits by event organisers will support the communities which are undertaking sustainable waste management projects.
