Over the 2023-2024 financial year, Business Events Perth locked in 315 national and international business events out to 2030, with an anticipated delegate expenditure of $339.61 million.
Delegates at these business events are expected to generate 277,534 room nights.
These results are a significant increase on pre-pandemic performance, with the bureau securing 264 business events with a delegate spend of $153.08 million in the 2018-2019 financial year.
“These are fantastic results for 2023-24 and further highlight the value these large-scale events and conferences bring to our tourism industry and wider economy,” said Western Australia’s tourism minister, Rita Saffioti.
“Business events form an important part of our government’s strategy to continue growing our tourism industry and further diversifying our state’s economy, while also spotlighting our beautiful state as an emerging global leader.”
Business Events Perth chair, Bradley Woods, said delegate spending over the rest of the decade would support local businesses and boost the vitality of Perth.
“Western Australia has once again demonstrated its expertise in attracting and successfully hosting world-class business events,” said Woods.
“The diversification of our visitor economy through business event visitation is a positive driver for the growth of Western Australia.”
Forthcoming national and international events in Perth include Routes Asia in March 2025, the 26th National Suicide Prevention Conference next autumn, the CYTO-Connect conference in November 2025, the World Environmental Education Congress in 2026 and the International Congress on Applied Phycology in 2027.
The city is also staring down a potential major revamp of its convention centre, with negotiations on the project announced in January.
