Following a period of test events, which included BESydney’s annual Global Ambassador Dinner as the venue’s first business event, The Cutaway has moved into full-scale commercial operation.
With its main event hall able to host dinners of up 600 attendees and cocktail events for 1,000 delegates, The Cutaway held its first corporate dinner last week and is hosting its first car launch on Wednesday, for the Geely EX2, a small EV.
“A bold, defining statement for the launch of the Geely EX2 was required,” said Geely Auto Australia’s marketing director, Beryl Thomas.
“The Cutaway is more than an event space – it is a cultural precinct which aligns perfectly with the launch of this fantastic new car.”
The car launch will see eight vehicles on the floor in The Cutaway, showcasing the impressive load-bearing capability of the venue. The main event hall has a loading capacity of 15kPa – effectively a weight of 1,500kg per square metre. The space is 3,329m2, enabling a broad range of heavy duty events to be held.
“Hosting Geely’s EX2 launch as the first automotive reveal at The Cutaway is a proud milestone for our team,” said ICC Sydney’s CEO, Adam Mather-Brown.
“It showcases the venue’s extraordinary versatility, its place within Barangaroo’s sustainable precinct and the expertise of our professionals, who deliver every event with precision, care and world class execution.”
The start of commercial business event delivery at The Cutaway follows a major renovation of the subterranean space cut out of the rock beneath the waterside parklands of Barangaroo Reserve, adjacent to the new Barangaroo Metro station in the Sydney CBD.
The renovation saw The Cutaway close for roughly two years and massively boosted the venue’s capabilities to host business events, while retaining its natural features and enhancing its aesthetic through considered architectural additions.
Enclosing voids in The Cutaway with three layers of glass has significantly improved its acoustics, while a broader enclosure of the pre-function space and main hall has also improved control of ambient indoor temperatures. A striking architecture feature of the revamped space is the 13 timber “trees”, stretching from floor to ceiling, each unique, rising from seven to 17 metres high, depending on the varying roof height.
The renovation added a commercial kitchen and two sizeable spaces on a mezzanine level that can host theatre setups of 145 or 169, or dinners from 90 to 100.
The Cutaway also operates on 100 per cent renewable energy, giving it another point of difference as a large-scale event venue.
ICC Sydney reports enquiries for the venue include conferences, exhibitions, dinners, product launches and other special events.
Across the multi-levelled space, total capacity is 2,000 people.
