The convention is expected to be attended by 30,000 people, including more than 5,000 international delegates from 18 countries.
To be held at Suncorp Stadium, the event is anticipated to have an economic impact of $28 million for Queensland.
Brisbane is one of 21 cities that will host a convention for the religious movement in 2027, with two other Jehovah’s Witnesses conventions to be held in Asia Pacific – in Seoul, Korea, and Yerevan, Armenia – alongside nine in Europe, four in the Americas and five in Africa.
“Like most Australians, Jehovah’s Witnesses love coming together for a special event,” said Jehovah’s Witnesses Australia spokesperson Tom Pecipajkovski.
“This will be an opportunity for thousands to experience a new city, enjoy the local food, lifestyle and culture, and make lasting friendships. We couldn’t think of a better welcome to Australia for our overseas visitors,” said Pecipajkovski of the Brisbane convention.
The event received support from Australia’s national business events subvention fund managed by Tourism Australia.
The convention also has the backing of the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland, with the state’s tourism minister Andrew Powell calling Brisbane’s selection as the convention destination “another vote of confidence in Brisbane as a world-class host city”.
For Suncorp Stadium, the event adds to a packed calendar.
“Suncorp Stadium is one of the hardest working venues in the world and we are looking forward to hosting a special international event like this that will deliver lasting benefits for Brisbane and Queensland,” said the stadium’s general manager, Darren Burden.
The 2027 International Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses will be held from July 2 to 4 in Brisbane.
