Taking place at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the inaugural events drew 1,850 delegates and injected $8.2 million into the economy.
“The success of Data Center World Australia and the AI Summit in 2026 demonstrated Melbourne’s ability to bring together global leaders, innovators and industry experts to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping our digital future,” said Melbourne Convention Bureau chief executive, Julia Swanson.
“We are delighted to welcome both events back to Melbourne in 2027 and look forward to building on this momentum, showcasing Victoria’s strengths as a leading destination for technology investment, innovation and collaboration.”
Both Data Center World and the AI Summit are owned by Informa, who have also recently chosen Melbourne to host the first Australian iteration of its Money20/20 event in 2028.
Informa Connect’s president of tech events, Marco Pardi said in 2027 Data Center World Australia and the AI Summit would build on the “tremendous success and energy of our inaugural event”.
“We’re excited to once again bring together the region’s most forward-thinking technology leaders and innovators,” said Pardi.
“The 2027 edition will deepen our commitment to fostering innovation at scale, connecting global expertise with Australia’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure landscape and empowering the community driving the next generation of AI and data centre excellence.”
Informa Australia’s managing director, Spiro Anemogiannis, called the events’ return to Melbourne in 2027 “a testament to the vibrant and rapidly maturing technology ecosystem across the region”.
“Australia is at a pivotal moment in its digital infrastructure journey and we’re proud to provide the platform where industry leaders, innovators and solution providers come together to shape the future,” said Anemogiannis.
With both data centres and AI currently facing criticism – and in the case of AI, existential warnings – these events could be a critical opportunity to shape responsible technology advances in these areas.
