The investment has yielded 168 new LED lights with more than 840 colour channels that can be individually controlled as part of a GDS lighting system that is an Australian first.
New speakers, cabling and a broadcast-standard signal distribution system is also part of the new infrastructure across the convention centre’s 6,345m2 of exhibition space, which can be split into four halls.
“Our clients should not have to choose between creative ambition and efficient delivery,” said GCCEC’s general manager, Nick Jeffrey.
“This product gives them both, with greater freedom to transform our exhibition halls while reducing the time, complexity and cost involved in bringing an event to life.
“We want organisers to see the exhibition halls as a creative canvas, not simply a space to fill.
“This technology gives us greater scope to shape the atmosphere and identity of an event from the moment delegates walk through the doors.”
The venue says the upgrades deliver greater production value for “minimal extra cost” and enable more technically complex event production at GCCEC.
This latest investment brings the venue’s technology spend over the last year and a half to $3 million.
Further lighting and sound at GCCEC are planned, with the next phase to focus on the venue’s arena.
