Staged by the Airports Council International, the event is expected to draw 800 delegates and inject an estimated $5 million into the local economy.
The summit was won for Melbourne by a bid from Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) and Melbourne Airport, with support from the state government and Tourism Australia.
“Melbourne is an ideal host for the ACI Airport Experience Summit, with a globally connected airport, a strong focus on customer experience and significant investment in future infrastructure,” said Victoria’s major events minister, Anthony Carbines.
“As Melbourne Airport delivers major expansion projects and Victoria continues to enhance its transport network, delegates will experience firsthand how the destination is preparing for future growth.
“The summit provides an outstanding opportunity to showcase Melbourne’s leadership in aviation, innovation and visitor experience to industry leaders from around the world.”
MCB’s chief executive, Julia Swanson, echoed the minister’s sentiments.
“It’s a valuable opportunity to strengthen our international profile while creating lasting economic and industry impact for the state, bringing hundreds of international travellers to our hotels, event venues and restaurants,” said Swanson.
Melbourne Airport is currently in the midst of a considerable expansion, with $7.5 billion being spent on adding a third runway and growing the footprint and capacity of the airport’s international terminal.
The ACI Airport Experience Summit 2027 will run September 20 to September 24 next year.
