The first Australian Money20/20 event will be held at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) in 2028.

The Informa event covering the global money ecosystem – including payments, fintech and financial services – already takes place Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the USA.

Thousands of those working within the money, finance and tech ecosystem are expected to attend the event, running from February 15 to 17, 2028.

Melbourne Convention Bureau won the event for Melbourne with support from both the Victorian Government and Australia’s national business events subvention fund, the Business Events Bid Fund, managed by Tourism Australia.

“Securing Money20/20 Australia is another win for Melbourne – putting Victoria on the global stage and showcasing why our city is the best place in Australia to do business, innovate and invest,” said Victoria’s new major events minister, Anthony Carbines.

“Labor is backing Victoria’s thriving fintech sector and bringing the world’s biggest business events to Melbourne – creating more opportunities for local businesses, workers and investors.”

Meanwhile, Money20/20 president, Tracey Davies, praised the fintech credentials of both Australia and New Zealand.

“Australia and New Zealand have built one of the world’s most advanced fintech ecosystems, and Money20/20 ANZ will showcase this innovation powerhouse to the world,” said Davies.

“We’re bringing together the region’s brightest innovators, leading institutions, forward-thinking investors and visionary policymakers with our global community of decision-makers.

“Combined with Melbourne’s world-class events infrastructure and strong support, we’re creating an unparalleled platform where ANZ fintech shines on the global stage.”

Danny Levy, Money20/20’s executive vice president and managing director for the event in Asia Pacific and the Middle East said the timing “could be better” for the event to come to Australasia.

“ANZ is entering an exciting new chapter,” said Levy.

“The region combines exceptional talent, forward-thinking regulation and a vibrant innovation ecosystem, while attracting growing interest from global financial institutions, technology companies and investors.

“Money20/20 ANZ will provide the platform where those worlds come together – connecting the ecosystem with global decision-makers, unlocking new partnerships and helping shape the future of financial services.

“Melbourne is the perfect place to make that happen.”
