ICC Sydney Event Deck becomes pickleball hub

Sydney’s convention centre has handed over its Event Deck to House of Pickle, which has transformed the space into eight pickleball courts.

Originally invented in the 1960s in a backyard in the USA, the game, which draws on both table tennis and badminton, has gained popularity in recent years.

The courts are open to the public from 7am to 9pm every day, via a booking system.

Events with more than 500 attendees can also be accommodated, with add-ons including branded pickleball paddles. There is also a bar within the House of Pickle activation.

“At ICC Sydney, our mission is to make a difference and activating the Event Deck delivers value to members of our community,” said ICC Sydney’s CEO, Adam Mather-Brown.

“Event organisers will also be able to enhance attendees’ experiences with opportunities for team building, exercise and, importantly, fun.

“This initiative reflects ICC Sydney’s commitment to innovation, wellbeing and inclusivity – creating a space that is engaging and accessible.”

The courts on the roof of the ICC Sydney will be in place for three years.

“Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and we’re thrilled to activate ICC Sydney’s iconic Event Deck with eight courts,” said House of Pickle CEO, Ollie Matthews.

“Our goal is to make House of Pickle Darling Harbour a welcoming space for everyone – from first-timers to seasoned players.”

It will still be possible to book the Event Deck for larger non-pickleball event activations while the House of Pickle is in residence.
