New event space for The Tasman in Hobart
A new event space to accompany Marriott International’s first Luxury Collection hotel in Australia is expected to be complete mid-2026.

To be called LUMINA, the pillarless space is being built immediately adjacent to the hotel in Parliament Square.

LUMINA will have capacity for 220 for standing events, 150 for a cabaret set-up or 200 in banquet layout.

“This project marks an exciting chapter for The Tasman, one which I know will bring new opportunities to share our destination with global explorers,” said The Tasman’s general manager, Carolyn Smith.

“This striking new event space is a symbol of our enduring aspiration to showcase hospitality excellence in Tasmania. To delight guests – from event organisers seeking rare and wild incentive destinations, to individuals searching for a trusted venue for life’s most meaningful events.”

The new space has been designed by the same architects that designed The Tasman itself, fjcstudio, and all of the timber used to build the space will be Tasmanian Plantation Oak.

Business Events Tasmania applauded the new development.

“The addition of LUMINA to Hobart’s business events offering secures our place as a world-class international incentive destination,” said Business Events Tasmania CEO, Marnie Craig.

“Business events are worth $3.5 trillion globally…Tasmania continues to grow its share, particularly in the lucrative corporate and incentive market, where incentive events command an average spend of $1,347 per delegate, per day.

“Our island offers incentive travel planners immersive itineraries blending wild beauty, ancient landscapes and refined craftsmanship.

“It affords delegates the chance to unplug in remarkable style. These experiences aren’t just scenic – they’re sensorial, soul-restoring and deeply Tasmanian.”

The Tasman was recognised as one of the World’s 50 Best Hotels in 2024, ranking 49th.
