New Zealand’s Hawke’s Bay to host international wine tourism conference
The North Island destination will host the Great Wine Capitals Conference and AGM next October.

Hawke’s Bay became part of the global Great Wine Capitals (GWC) network in 2023, which highlights wine tourism regions. To date, the network boasts 11 destinations – Australia and New Zealand are represented by Adelaide and Hawke’s Bay respectively. Other regions in the network include Bordeaux in France, the Napa Valley in California and Verona in Italy.

The Great Wine Capitals Conference is expected to draw 150 delegates to Hawke’s Bay in 2026, including those working in wine businesses and wine tourism.

“The GWC is an influential global brand that aligns beautifully with Hawke’s Bay’s position as New Zealand’s Food and Wine Country,” said Hawke’s Bay Tourism’s CEO Hamish Saxton.

“It’s about putting Hawke’s Bay on the map as a premium wine region and bringing New Zealand with us.

“Hosting this conference and AGM will also showcase the amazing venues, accommodation and activities across Napier and Hastings and the region’s ability to host international high-quality business events.”

The Great Wine Capitals event will include the International Best of Wine Tourism Awards, famils, technical visits and international wine tasting.

New Zealand is set to host two other notable wine events in the near future, with the International Cool Climate Wine Symposium set to take place at Te Pae Christchurch in January 2026, while the Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand Conference will be held in Marlborough in February 2027.

“New Zealand is gaining a strong reputation as a host of premium wine industry events,” said Tourism New Zealand’s global manager of business events, Penelope Ryan.

“The ability to blend world-class wine expertise and experiences amidst beautiful surroundings is extremely appealing to both event organisers and delegates.”
