The Ethereum Foundation chose Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) – named “Best Convention Centre in Thailand” by the World MICE Awards in 2023 and 2024 – as the venue for its seventh Devcon in November 2024.

Devcon, the biennial Ethereum conference for developers, founders, designers and researchers, rotates around the world and this was its first time in Southeast Asia.

A major goal of Devcon SEA was to bring the entire Ethereum ecosystem together in one place and foster collaboration and cross-pollination.

Devcon 7 SEA was the biggest, most global and diverse Devcon ever. Held from November 12 to 15, 2024, it drew 12,500 participants from 130 countries – double the attendance in 2022.

“QSNCC’s modern facilities and ample space provided the perfect environment for our attendees,” said Skylar Weaver, Devcon Lead at the Ethereum Foundation.

“QSNCC is big and fits our audience. It has enough rooms of different sizes and types. We turned the exhibition halls into a creative space while the ballrooms were used for conference sessions.”

With 78,500 m2 of total event space, QSNCC is the largest convention centre in Bangkok. There are eight event halls, four plenary halls, four ballrooms and 50 meeting rooms.

Devcon had many simultaneous sessions and activities spread over six main stages, 70 ‘impact spaces’ with specialised workshop areas and 17 ‘Community Hubs’ designed to facilitate community-led discussions on topics from diverse fields.

Given the vast and flexible space, there were specially created lounges, display and gaming areas, and even a massage corner and decompression room to relax in.

Weaver said another major draw was QSNCC’s central location and direct connection to the MRT subway. Restaurants in the venue offered a wide variety of food options, besides QSNCC’s own catering for the event.

The dining hall turned out meals throughout the day, just like a local food court. Weaver described this as “amazing – people really enjoyed the food”.

Many attendees also liked the convention centre’s design, natural daylight views, facilities and the high-speed internet connectivity throughout the complex.

Acknowledging the venue’s crucial role in the event’s success, Weaver said: “The QSNCC team was super helpful – such as in answering our questions, assisting with the tech systems, Wi-Fi and other areas.

“We appreciate the support given, and they all have been really responsive. We are very pleased with the service. The venue is really great – a top venue.”

Staging the mega-event at QSNCC also benefited the local community. Hotels, shops, restaurants and attractions saw thousands of foreign attendees over the four days and longer due to extended stays.

Successfully hosting Devcon SEA reinforced QSNCC’s standing as Thailand’s “Best Convention Centre”. Having hosted many world-class events since its revamp in 2022, QSNCC continues to leverage its strategic location, scalability and outstanding service founded on Thai hospitality.

Upcoming business events at QSNCC include the 71st Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (February), Money 20/20 Asia (April), the Asia Pacific Life Insurance Congress 2025 (May) and PATA Travel Mart 2025 (August).
