Former MEA chief executive joins Tourism Australia’s board
Jenny Lambert OAM, former CEO of Meetings and Events Australia (MEA), is one of four new appointees to Tourism Australia’s board.
Lambert is currently a policy and research advisor for Accommodation Australia and has previously held leadership roles with the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Tourism Alliance. She headed up MEA between 1999 and 2005.
Other new members of Tourism Australia’s board are former federal tourism minister, Michael Lee, Tim Yeed, currently the associate secretary for the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Peter Laurance AO, a seasoned tourism attractions owner and developer, who is the former owner of Sea World and Movie World on the Gold Coast.
With Michael Issenberg and Jeffery Ellison AM departing their roles as chair and deputy chair of the board respectively, Penny Fowler and Ian Horne have taken on those roles.
Horne is also the current chair of Business Events Adelaide and sits on the Adelaide Venue Management Corporation board, which manages Adelaide Convention Centre.
ABEA appoints new board directors
With nearly 18 months of operation under its belt, the Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) has appointed three new board members.
CEO of Business Events Perth, Gareth Martin, CEO and co-founder of Turnkey Event Solutions, Dan Londero and managing director of ExpoNet Rocky Bruzzano have all joined the ABEA board.
Operations director for Hannover Fairs Australia Amy Saleh will observe the board as an emerging leader. Saleh is also currently chair of the Emerging Leaders Council for the association.
Leaving the board to make room for the new appointees are Nigel Keen, who has also recently left his role as general manager of Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre (PCEC), CEO of Canberra Convention Bureau, Michael Matthews, and general manager of Cairns Convention Centre, Janet Hamilton, who resigned from the board earlier in the year.
