The partnership will see Sydney Showground offer its event clients the opportunity to measure the carbon emissions of their events at the venue and offset the emissions if they wish.
According to Clima, the events industry is responsible for 10 per cent of carbon emissions globally.
Clima provides carbon measurement tools and access to carbon offset projects in Australia and around the world.
The reports Clima can provide to Sydney Showground clients who opt in will help organisers understand the sources of their carbon emissions, which is the first step to reducing carbon footprints at future events through changing processes and actions and through education.
“Event sustainability has been a core mission for our venue over the past 12 months and partnering with Clima is another important step in this journey,” said Sydney Showground’s general manager, Darryl Jeffrey.
“Data shows that event organisers are wanting to host more environmentally conscious events and that customers feel better when attending these events.
“As a venue, it is our job to help our clients achieve this goal and support them in a proactive way.
“By working with Clima we hope to arm our clients with the resources and tools for them to take positive steps towards becoming net zero, while we, as a venue, continue to invest in the sustainability of our venue and work towards this same goal.”
Sydney Showground has various small and large spaces for events of between 200 and 7,000 attendees.
The venue launched its environment, social and governance (ESG) strategy late last year and recently spent $4 million on upgrading the lighting in its ENGIE stadium to reduce its energy consumption on event days.
