Hotels update: Brand swaps and a first look
Accor has picked up the management agreement for a Brisbane hotel while another Ovolo property has passed into new management.

Accor debuts Mercure Brisbane Spring Hill

Accor has taken over a former independently managed hotel to bring a second Mercure to central Brisbane.

What was the Pacific Hotel Brisbane is now the Mercure Brisbane Spring Hill.

Located just behind Brisbane’s main train station, the property is about 3km or a seven-minute drive from Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The hotel is also just 2km from Suncorp Stadium, set to host the opening and closing ceremonies of Brisbane’s Olympic Games in 2032.

The hotel has 179 rooms alongside four event spaces. The largest meeting room is 137m2.

After passing into Accor’s management, the hotel is set for a refurbishment this year.

“Mercure Brisbane Spring Hill is in an excellent position overlooking the CBD and the accommodation make-up of traditional rooms as well as one and two-bedroom suites suits families, groups, and the corporate market well,” said Adrian Williams, Accor Pacific’s COO for premium, midscale and economy brands.

“Having been named as one of the world’s hottest travel destinations in 2024 by the New York Times, there is a lot to be excited about when it comes to travel and tourism to the Sunshine State, and we’re fortunate in that we have a strong portfolio of hotels and brands to capture the travelling public.

“Mercure Brisbane Spring Hill is in a location that benefits from being within walking distance to the CBD as well local neighbourhood cafes, restaurants and of course, Suncorp Stadium, so we’re looking forward to welcoming those in town for business or leisure or a hybrid of the two.”

EVT has taken over The Inchcolm

EVT takes over The Inchcolm

Also in Brisbane, EVT – owners of the QT and Rydges brands, amongst others – has taken over The Inchcolm, formerly an Ovolo managed property.

Joining EVT’s Independent Collection by EVT, the hotel has 50 rooms and several meetings and events facilities.

This is the latest development in a partnership between EVT and Invictus Developments. EVT took over the management of two other Invictus Developments properties earlier this year – the Old Clare Hotel and the Harbour Rocks Hotel, both in Sydney and both also part of the Independent Collection by EVT.

“The Inchcolm, Brisbane is a charming, boutique hotel and a valued addition to the Independent Collection by EVT which continues to present hotel owners with a flexible model for any property type,” said EVT’s director of hotel and resort operations, Norman Arundel.

EVT is planning a ‘revamped guest experience’ and an updated food and beverage offering for the hotel.

Inside a Novotel room at the new Melbourne Airport hotel

Accor offers first look at the major new build hotel at Melbourne Airport

With Accor to open the new-build Novotel & ibis Styles Melbourne Airport on July 1, the hotel group has offered a first look at the 464-room property owned by Melbourne Airport.

The hotels are the first new-build internationally branded hotels to open at the airport in more than two decades.

A $230 million development, the Novotel will have 248 rooms while the ibis Styles will have 216 rooms. Two well-known figures in the architecture and design space are helming the project – Fender Katsalidis and Woods Bagot, who between them have worked on the likes of The Darling in Sydney, the Mona Pavilions at the iconic Hobart museum, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and Adelaide Convention Centre.

The two hotels will be located within The Hive precinct and will also operate three conference and event spaces onsite, including a ballroom for up to 330 attendees. The airport’s first health and wellbeing club will also be onsite. Higher State will offer a sauna, massage, fitness centre and indoor pool.

“Melbourne is now Australia’s largest city, and these hotels are essential for the growing number of people visiting our city, many of whom need a night before or after a long flight,” said Melbourne Airport’s head of property and asset development, Stuart Verrier.

“But more than that, they also offer dining, wellness, conference and co-working facilities that provide a reason to come out to Melbourne Airport – even if you’re not flying.”
