Perth to host key Tourism Australia event
Perth will host around 300 travel agents from across the world for Tourism Australia’s G’day Australia this October.

The event provides further education on Australian tourism products over three days to travel agents who have already completed online training modules to learn about Australia’s tourism offerings as well as delivering destination familiarisation opportunities.

As host of G’day Australia, Perth will have the opportunity for a full-day destination showcase to all travel agents attending, putting Western Australia’s capital in the spotlight for travel sellers based in Australia’s key markets, including Asia, New Zealand, North America, Europe and the UK.

Agents will also have the opportunity to explore other Australian destiantions before or after their time in Perth.

The workshop portion of the event will be held at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, connecting the visiting travel agents to 100 Australian sellers. The workshop is delivered in a trade show format with travel agents participating in small group appointments with Australian tourism products and services.

“Our Aussie Specialists already know so much about our country from participating in the Aussie Specialist Program, but we believe it is really important to not just tell them how incredible Australia is – but show them – and that’s what G’day Australia is all about,” said Tourism Australia’s managing director, Phillipa Harrison.

Aussie Specialists are the name Tourism Australia gives to travel agents who have participated in the online training program.

“About half of the agents we bring to Australia for the event have never visited before, and those who have been before will be visiting a different part of the country,” said Harrison.

“We know from when we have held this event in the past, that 100 per cent of the agents have walked away saying they intend to sell more of Australia as a result of attending, which is more important than ever, as we get our visitor economy back on a path of sustainable growth.”

Federal tourism minister Don Farrell said Perth would be an “exceptional” host city for G’day Australia.

“International visitor numbers have been steadily increasing since we first welcomed travellers back, and events like G’day Australia support the return to pre-pandemic levels, and further growth of our tourism sector and its important contribution to Australia’s economy,” he said.

Western Australia will be in the global tourism spotlight in October, with Perth also set to host the 24th World Travel & Tourism Council Global Summit in the week before G’day Australia.

“Western Australia is a remarkable and unique place to explore that must be seen to be believed – this is why it’s essential that Aussie Specialist agents have the opportunity to visit our beautiful state and experience its incredible tourism offerings for themselves,” said Western Australia’s tourism minister, Rita Saffioti.

G’day Australia will be hosted by Tourism Australia in partnership with Tourism Western Australia.
