Anita’s career working locally and overseas for small businesses and large corporations gave her the experience to understand the industry from both client and supplier perspectives.

Exposure to the family business from a very young age has shown me the importance of a strong work ethic and the value of learning from my peers.
I have been fortunate enough to get to know and work with a lot of successful people during my working life and it has been my experience with these people that has made me who I am today.
My very first introduction to the events industry was with Tapestry Wines in McLaren Vale. There, I was exposed to the coordination of weddings and special events through the role of cellar door salesperson. At this time I was studying a Bachelor of Wine Marketing which complemented this role immensely and made me realise my passion for the hospitality and events industry.
When I completed my degree, the opportunity arose to live and work in Thailand in a marketing role for an international food manufacturing plant. This was an amazing experience and broadened my cultural understanding of the workplace environment.

After fulfilling my contract in Thailand, I returned home to Australia with a strong desire to gain more experience in large corporations and I was offered a position at the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide. This was a pivotal point in my career as the support network of my managers, colleagues and the Accor philosophy inspired me to grow within the industry. I began my working life at this hotel as the conference and events coordinator and after only a year was promoted to an executive role giving me the responsibility of running the department. During this time, I became well acquainted with my peers in the industry through attending events [organised] by the Adelaide Convention Bureau and Meetings and Events Australia. I was also a part of the YMEA committee who were responsible for putting together educational events for young executives in the industry. A highlight of my working life at the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide was being awarded the YMEA Future Leader of the Year in 2011.

I then spent some time working in a similar role at the Novotel Barossa Valley Resort which expanded my experience in running large residential conferences as well as taking on the many weddings that this property is renowned for.
In September 2011, I was offered a role as the business development manager for my family business, Pro Show Productions. I was able to bring the wealth of knowledge and experience I’d gained overseas and within the Accor network to the role.

Pro Show Productions is an audio-visual company specialising in the technical production of corporate events throughout Australia so after my experience gained from an overall event perspective, it is interesting to be involved from a specialised supplier level. In this role I am exposed to new and exciting challenges every day and I look forward to continuing to grow with the company.

Supervisor’s comment:

Pro Show Productions has experienced significant growth throughout this past year; due in no small part to the outstanding organisational abilities that Anita brought to the company. Our philosophy is based on building strong and lasting relationships with each of our clients. Anita has a happy attitude towards both her clients and her job and I regularly receive high compliments about her efficiency and her friendly nature which demonstrates that she has not only applied our philosophy, she has embraced it. The trust that our clients place in Anita puts her in an ideal position to recognise and immediately act on opportunities as they arise and I am thrilled to have her head up our busy and growing company.
