We’re loving the sound of the new $575 million mixed-use space at Green Square in Sydney’s inner-south that includes 326 apartments, a 90-room boutique hotel and a 430-seat event space but to call that space a “convention centre” is maybe a little OTT.

The definition we found for a convention centre is that it’s “a large civic building or group of buildings designed for conventions, industrial shows, and the like, having large unobstructed exhibit areas and often including conference rooms, hotel accommodation, restaurants, and other facilities”.

Maybe this new “Infinity Convention Centre” is simply clever marketing, or perhaps it could spurn a new generation of more boutique convention centres around the country. Only time will tell.
