Langham Hospitality Group is to open The Langham, Venice by 2026. The move was flagged at the Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) this week by Jeffrey van Vorsselen, managing director of The Langham, Melbourne and regional vice president of operations for Langham Hospitality Group in the Pacific and South East Asia.
He said the luxury resort hotel would open on the traditional glassblowing island of Murano, retaining the existing 16th century façade of the host building, which was formerly a casino and a glass blowing factory.
Van Vorsselen showed an image of the waterfront location and said The Langham’s design team had specially developed the proposed resort room styles in gleaming white. The Langham, Venice will have 133 rooms including 30 suites and guests will arrive by the classic Italian mahogany speedboat.
Works on the new hotel began last week.
The Langham, which dates back to 1865 when it opened a grand hotel in London, currently has 90 operating hotels under The Langham and Cordis brands, including The Langham, Melbourne, The Langham, Sydney, the newly-opened Langham, Gold Coast and Cordis, Auckland.
Van Vorsselen also revealed a third lifestyle brand, Eton, with 4 to 4.5 star hotels to open in Washington DC and Hong Kong.
He confirmed that Australia was a potential growth market and they were considering opportunities to expand The Langham and Cordis brands.
