One of Australia’s newest boutique hotel companies, Spicers Retreats, Hotels & Lodges is turning heads for all the right reasons.

Can you give our readers a little background of Spicers Retreats, Hotels & Lodges?
Launched in February 2010, Spicers Retreats, Hotels & Lodges is a boutique hotel group which aims to raise the bar in Australian luxury – combining the individuality, service and privacy of a bed and breakfast with the style, quality and luxury standards of a grand international hotel.
The Spicers Group is privately owned by Jude and Graham Turner and managed by a small executive team with just over 100 team members across the retreats. Jude plays a central role in the Spicers vision – sourcing, designing and styling the retreats – while her husband Graham brings a wealth of travel industry experience as co-founder of Flight Centre Pty Ltd and other successful international businesses.

How many properties do you have and where are they located?
There are currently seven properties in the Spicers Group collection. Six of these are spread across South East Queensland’s hinterland beauty spots including Spicers Hidden Vale in the Lockyer Valley, Spicers Peak Lodge and Spicers Canopy in the scenic rim region, Spicers Tamarind Retreat and Spicers Clovelly Estate on the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Spicers Balfour Hotel in Brisbane city’s fashionable New Farm, and Spicers Vineyards Estate in the world renowned Hunter Valley wine region.

How does Spicers differ from other hotel and resort groups?
Spicers is far more than just five-star luxury accommodation – we provide quality, personal experiences for our guests through a combination of unique locations, first-class properties, amazing food and wine, day spa facilities and active onsite activities. The limited number of rooms at our properties ensures a more intimate experience and allows us to tailor make each group’s stay. Each property in the group is unique, not a carbon copy like other large chains, while still achieving the highest international standards.

What do you offer the meetings and events market?
Ideal for intimate group sizes, we specialise in tailored experiences perfect for executive board retreats, team conferences and high-end incentives. Every property offers the option of exclusive use, a dedicated onsite event coordinator, premium conference facilities with natural light and fresh air, fantastic food and wine experiences and onsite adventure activities.

What do your clients tell you they like about your venues?
Our passion for our product, our high level of personalised service and the stunning destinations and onsite experiences we offer creates a truly memorable stay for our guests, so much so they can’t wait to return!

What role does food play in your facilities? IE – how important is it?
Each Spicers destination provides a gastronomic journey, with great food and wine being an essential part of the overall experience. As a group we support local producers in each region and also grow a variety of our own produce onsite, which gives each property a unique flavour. Under the guidance of our passionate chefs, our guests can learn to create the culinary delights unique to each venue by participating in an onsite cooking school, master chef program, or wine appreciation course. At Spicers Retreats, Hotels & Lodges our dining experience is as much a priority as luxury accommodation and impeccable service.

What plans does Spicers have in the future?
Our aim is to continue to improve each property in the group, the experience offered and quality level of service by growing our people so we are renowned for our excellent services and quality products. In the future we would like to add iconic properties to enhance the Spicers brand, including a beach property and additional venues interstate. We see the Spicers Group being known in the market as a collection of unique experiences with a guaranteed quality of product and service.
