What did you want to be when you grew up: A flight attendant. Your first job: Boat driver and dishwasher at Berowra Waters Inn. Your first pay packet: $85 for three days’ work. Your first break: Apprentice waiter at The Summit. Describe your current role: I represent a network of 13 hotels in 10 key locations across Australia, New Zealand, Shanghai and Singapore, providing the conference and event industry access to a comprehensive range of meeting, incentive, conference and event facilities. The best part of your job: Working with people and offering solutions. The worst: Long days and too many Mondays and not enough Fridays. Who has inspired you: Numerous professionals during my hotel career but I have to say my mother. Your best quality: Dealing with people, mentoring and giving direction. Your worst quality: I wish to leave this blank as I haven’t come to terms with it as yet.Your best achievement: Making budgets three years’ running. Where do you want to be in 10 years’ time: Living in another country either in Asia or America. Your likes about the MICE industries: The many different types of people that make up our ever-changing industry. Your dislikes: People who do not share the love or job knowledge.
Gary Moran has been appointed general manager of the PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road in Singapore. In his role, Mr Moran will oversee the daily operations of the 534-room property and be responsible for driving service and performance excellence to maximise customer satisfaction and revenue for the hotel.
Amanda Elder has been appointed director of sales and marketing, Queensland Cluster, for Marriott, overseeing two of the largest hotels in the group’s Australian portfolio – the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa and Brisbane Marriott Hotel. Mrs Elder brings to the Marriott 24 years of leadership experience at Starwood Hotels and Resorts in Australia, Asia and Europe, most recently occupying the position of vice president sales Europe, Africa and Middle East while she was based in Brussels. She began her career on the Gold Coast with Starwood.

Kylie Walker has been appointed sales and marketing manager at Crowne Plaza Queenstown. Ms Walker has more than 20 years’ experience in the sales, marketing and tourism industries, joining the property from Air New Zealand Holidays where she was Queenstown manager. She earlier spent seven years at Millbrook Resort as international sales manager.

Andrew Frost has been appointed group finance manager of The Orange Group, a New Zealand-based event management and communication company. Mr Frost was previously general manager of finance and corporate services of Competenz. He said he was excited by the challenges of joining such a dynamic agency. “The experiential, events and hospitality industries are new territories that I’m looking forward to working in,” he said.

Lisa Ellerton has been appointed meetings director at Crowne Plaza Queenstown. Ms Ellerton started her tourism career in 1997 with the Swallow International Hotel Group in the UK, and joined Crowne Plaza Queenstown in 2007 as a food and beverage attendant. She worked her way up to restaurant supervisor before moving into the banquets team.
Liz Glanville has been appointed Melbourne-based operations manager of Event Travel Management, the event division of Corporate Travel Management. Ms Glanville will lead the award-winning event management team, voted AFTA’s Best Business Event Travel Agency 2012, in creating local and global events of outstanding creativity, quality and value.
