If you hear distant celebratory noises this weekend, they’re likely coming from New Zealand’s business events industry. This week the New Zealand Government eased restrictions on social gatherings and travel, and confirmed that ticketed large events, including domestic business events and conferences, can go ahead with a 100 person limit.

Chief executive of Conventions and Incentives New Zealand (CINZ) Lisa Hopkins said the industry welcomes clarity on numbers from the government, and the acknowledgement that business events should be viewed differently to social gatherings.

In addition to the 100 person limit, there is a one-metre distancing requirement, and contact tracing is essential. The current caps on business and social gatherings are for the first stage of Alert Level Two and will be revisited on May 25.
