The sixth annual MEET DARWIN mega-familiarisation held recently in the Top End set a strong cultural tone from the start.
Creative handcrafted invitations designed as Indigenous Message Sticks were sent to invitees, who came from throughout Australasia to the Top End.
They included representatives from a range of associations, not-for-profit organisations, corporations and academic institutions, as well as professional event organisers.
This annual four day showcase of Darwin is a partnership between the Darwin Convention Centre (DCC) and the Northern Territory Convention Bureau (NTCB). The itinerary provided an overview of Darwin’s many world-class assets and also provided interaction with local government, industry and business leaders.
These included Tony Mayell, the CEO of Tourism NT, Greg Bicknell, CEO of the Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Professor Barney Glover, Vice-Chancellor of Charles Darwin University.
The familiarisation was timed to coincide with the vibrant Darwin Festival and the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, with participants given an exclusive private viewing of the Indigenous artworks on display at the Art Fair.
Iconic Darwin locations such as the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, Deck Chair Cinema, Crocosaurus Cove, SKYCITY Darwin and the Military Museum were also included in the program. m
