The iconic Sydney venue is upping the ante with a new $12million multipurpose facility.

Situated in the busy Sydney Olympic Park precinct, Sydney Showground is surrounded by beautiful natural parklands, clusters of restaurants, bars and retail outlets, and soon, a brand new meetings and events facility.

Set to open on March 1 2014, the new multipurpose facility boasts expansive conference and exhibition space as well as acoustic walls and world-class AV facilities.
Along with break-out space and small meeting rooms, there’s more than 13,000m² of dedicated conference space and a 5000m² exhibition hall – both of which can be used for gala dinners and cocktail functions.
Sydney Showground general manager, Peter Thorpe, says while the new facility forms part of the venue’s 20-year master plan, the build was fast-tracked given the imminent closure of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.
“Building only began in August this year, but the facility will be complete by February 2014 and will be online by March 1.”

Mr Thorpe says he and his team spoke extensively with industry partners and clients when planning the new structure in order to cope with the long-term needs of the industry.
“More and more customers want more space,” Mr Thorpe says.
“In the next two years we’ll be looking to expand further.
“We’re already looking at another new facility for stage two as well as an underground parking space.”
And business is booming. The new facility is already fully booked out for next year’s Royal Easter Show and for three months after its official opening.
The facility was also crucial in securing the CeBIT Australia trade fair, which will be held at Sydney Olympic Park for the next three years. m
