The return of the Sydney International Boat Show has been delayed until 2022 with a smaller Sydney Festival of Boating to take place in 2021 instead.

The festival is being presented by the Boating Industry Association (BIA) in place of the traditional mega event, which has not run since 2019.

In its new smaller format, the event will be held at ICC Sydney between July 29 and August 1 2021 across the upper-level exhibition halls and with undercover exhibitor displays on the rooftop Event Deck.

The BIA is one of the biggest clients of ICC Sydney.

The festival will also feature a marina in Cockle Bay which will accommodate larger on-water displays and the promenade leading to Tumbalong Park will feature festival activations and displays.

The BIA says it will resume the Sydney International Boat Show, the southern hemisphere’s largest boating show, in 2022.

Last week the BIA announced the new event will be four days of exhibitions, festivities and a celebration of the boating lifestyle.

BIA spokesperson Neil Patchett said the priority was to showcase the boating lifestyle at a time when interest in boating was booming.

“Boating has proven itself as a standout choice in recreational activities for families across Australia over the past year,” he said.

“Flexible work practices, low interest rates and the ongoing staycation are some of the factors leading people to look at how to make the most of their leisure time and getting out on the water is a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors.”
