INDONESIA A Memorandum of Agreement has been signed between Meritus Hotels & Resorts and Funtasy Island Development Pte Ltd (FID) to manage a deluxe resort development comprising hotel and villas, retail, convention, dining and recreational facilities.
Located on Riau Islands, Indonesia, the 819-acre Funtasy Island will open next year as the largest eco theme park and the first gated island community in the world.
Comprising a 200-room condotel, a 230-suite hotel and 413 villas, 70 per cent of the island’s total area will be preserved as a nature sanctuary for eco-themed activities such as nature trails and aquaculture tours in the surrounding waters.
Situated between Batam and Singapore, Funtasy Island will be accessible via a 20-minute luxury yacht or ferry ride from the Harbourfront ferry terminal in Singapore.
FID managing director Michael Yong said the development is FID’s first response to the growing demand for eco-tourism.
“From a strategic standpoint, tapping the hospitality expertise of Meritus certainly enhances the potential of Funtasy Island to carve a formidable niche as an eco-resort destination of global standing,” he added.
