ASB Showgrounds in Auckland has gone into liquidation just weeks after hosting the triumphant return of New Zealand’s flagship business events trade show MEETINGS.
Auckland Agricultural Pastoral and Industrial Shows Board, which trades as ASB Showgrounds, was placed in liquidation last Tuesday, with Rodgers Reidy appointed as the liquidators and a first report due tomorrow. The venue has seen several major events set to be held at the premises cancelled during the pandemic.
All employees of the venue had been let go but, according to New Zealand media, the liquidator has rehired some staff to help with the liquidation process.
Some media reports say the Cornwall Park Trust, which leased the land to the Showgrounds, had been pushing for a significant rent increase – although this is denied – while another report suggest events scheduled for the venue in the coming months will go ahead there.
