Kylie Burchmore loves her fast-paced role at Crown Resorts. micenet caught up with her for details on her role and what’s happening in the group.
Q: Tell us about yourself and your role at Crown Resorts.
A: I joined the team at Crown Resorts in 2011 as the newly created group director sales and marketing for Crown Hotels and, since then, have been promoted to my current position of senior vice president global sales.
My role is fast paced, dynamic and varied. I oversee the entire spectrum of sales and marketing across Crown Hotels (including food and beverage) on a global level and work across everything from brands, guest engagement and e-commerce to revenue management and directing the Crown Hotels’ global sales team. It’s challenging and always exciting.
For the decade prior to joining Crown, I worked across sales and marketing in a number of high-calibre luxury hotels under global brands such as Park Hyatt and Raffles
Q: Describe your average day.
A: Every day is different – and that’s part of what I love about the role. Any day can see me spending my time working on anything from staff mentoring or planning the latest brand campaign to sales reviews or e-commerce strategies.
I work closely with the business development team to create business strategies and activities to further drive the success of our hotels and also spend significant time strengthening our tourism industry alliances.
I’m lucky to be based in Melbourne and, on the days my schedule allows it, I love making the most of the fabulous selection of Crown Melbourne’s waterfront cafes and restaurants. I also make regular trips to our Sydney and Hong Kong offices where it’s refreshing to have the change of location and pace of different cities.
Q: Exciting times for Crown Resorts with new hotel openings. Give us a sneak peek at what planners are to expect.
A: We are beyond excited about the pending opening of Crown Towers Perth. To say it will bring a new level of luxury to our suite of hotels would be an understatement.
Crown Towers Perth will treat guests to a host of exciting new restaurants including Epicurean, a stylish cocktail bar TWR (The Waiting Room) and unique event spaces such as The Great Lawn and the palatial Crown Ballroom.
Q: Tell us about your favourite Crown Resort.
A: That’s a tough one as Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth have different highlights. Crown Melbourne is an institution, with so many options for world-class dining and entertainment. From an events perspective it’s the ideal place to host a special function that will stand out in guests’ minds. Crown Melbourne has a world leading customer service team who works with each client to tailor an event that perfectly suits their needs.
On the other hand, I travel to Crown Perth frequently, which has a beautiful resort feel. The weather in Perth is great, and with world-class restaurants like Bistro Guillaume overlooking the hotel pool, there’s always opportunity to make the most of the sunshine. With the upcoming opening of Crown Towers Perth in December adding another element of luxury to the property and a host of premium event spaces, there’s even more reason to visit.
Q: What’s the most interesting request you’ve had from a client?
A: We have so many interesting requests at our hotel and, something that sets us apart from our competitors, is our ability to ensure every experience is memorable.
One that stands out in my memory was a request for a space for a guest to land their private jet, a celebrity request for an in-room fashion show, not to mention the many, many lavish marriage proposals we’ve helped coordinate.
We love a challenge and these types of requests make our days all the more exciting!
