Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) has announced that its awards program will go ahead despite the tough year presented by the global pandemic. The awards portal is currently open for submissions, with a total of 40 awards up for grabs across six categories.

Some of the key changes to this year’s MEA National Awards Program 2020 include: categories such as events of the year, event management, venues and products and services now including virtual and hybrid events in the eligibility; the word count being reduced by around 40 per cent in each category; new awards for ‘Event Freelancer of the Year’ and ‘Excellence in the Industry’; bundled pricing allowing members to save 10 per cent for entering into two or more categories; an additional month for applications, with the portal closing on March 1, 2021; and more.

Commenting on the announcement, MEA chair Nigel Collin said: “The industry has been hit very hard since March 2020 with Covid-19 but some events did go ahead earlier in the year and more will do so by the end of December.

“So, with that in mind, MEA’s National Awards program will continue, to ensure we recognise the exceptional achievements, creativity and outcomes that businesses and event professionals in Australia have delivered, despite the industry’s toughest year.”
