More than 280,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered within Melbourne’s major convention and exhibition venue, which has given over space to house the vaccine hub for 250 days.

Victoria has now reached 90 percent vaccine coverage across the state for those aged 16 and over and will hit the same milestone for those aged 12 and over soon.

“We have all seen huge changes to the way we live, and by MCEC providing space for the essential healthcare workers to administer the lifesaving vaccine to the members of our community, it’s meant we are able to meet the government vaccination targets and help get the city back to a covid normal,” said MCEC Chief Executive Peter King.

The venue has also been encouraging those who are getting vaccinated at the hub to show their appreciation by buying a nurse a coffee. Over 1,920 coffees have been donated to date.

The centre reopened for events on November 5 and is now operating at 100 percent capacity, thanks for Victoria’s easing of restrictions and capacity requirements.
