The leaders of the global business events community are converging on Las Vegas this week for Convening Leaders 2022, PCMA’s flagship annual conference.

On the eve of the event, PCMA President and CEO Sherrif Karamat said the business events industry was more important than ever before.

“Our industry propels all other industries, building communities and careers – it’s an awesome responsibility and at the same time a privilege,” he said.

“The time has come for the business events industry to act – to build our future safely and be resolute about our purpose.”

Karamat has been a big supporter of the business events industry in Australia and a frequent speaker at events including leadership forums at AIME.

“Volatility is not new to us – the last 20 years have shown us that numerous times, it is why we chose this industry as our profession.

“I know how difficult this is, especially when many decisions are out of our control.

“However, in life we should always respond and never react – these circumstances are what we have all prepared for, it’s where we excel.”

He urged the industry not to lose sight of the importance of being safe – wearing a mask, being vaccinated – and listening to the facts delivered by medical experts.

“Our industry and our businesses can and will move forward. How this happens, it’s up to us, all of us,” he said.

He indicated PCMA would be launching a movement “with meaningful experiences for all” that would allow everyone to learn and connect where they feel most comfortable.
