Wellington’s newest conference and exhibition centre is set to open in the heart of the capital in June 2023 and there’s a long list of reasons why conference organisers should lock in their dates.

Here’s our top five:

1: Tākina is ideally suited for medium to large conferences accommodating a plenary up to 1,600 delegates. Offering space across two levels, it can cater for a large conference exclusively or two conferences at the same time.

2: Situated in the heart of Wellington’s vibrant, cultural capital, the city’s compact nature means Tākina is easily accessible and walkable for delegates, with more than 4,000 hotel rooms nearby and the airport just a 15-minute drive away.

3: Tākina will not only operate sustainably, but it has been built with the highest standard of sustainability in mind as well. The design has achieved a five-star Green Star certification representing New Zealand excellence for environmental sustainability, which is expected to lead to 60 per cent less energy usage and 66 per cent fewer carbon emissions than buildings of a similar size and function.

4: Tākina is on track to open as scheduled in mid-2023 and bookings continue to flow in. There are already more than 100 conferences and events on the calendar. The very first conference will be the Trans-Tasman Member’s Choice Symposium, held in partnership between the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and New Zealand Psychological Society in May 2023.

5: What sets Tākina apart is its public exhibition space on the ground floor which will attract global exhibitions to Wellington and New Zealand. The exhibition space will sit alongside a café offering the best of Wellington’s cuisine and a retail outlet, all areas where both delegates and Wellingtonians alike can meet, relax and enjoy the surroundings.
